GUESTS.

Tourism and hospitality copy in Mallorca: villas, rentals, restaurants and excursions

Guests aren’t looking for "paradise". They want to know whether the pool gets shade in the afternoon, whether the track is fine with a suitcase, and whether the restaurant can fit four without a booking. I write those details down so your listing answers them before anyone has to ask.

INCLUDED.

In every piece

Property

A short title, a two- or three-sentence summary, the full description, and a list of rooms and amenities. If it’s going on several platforms, I fit it to the space each one gives you.

Menu

A name and description for every dish, plus the intro lines for each section. Allergen information isn’t mine to write: that comes from your kitchen, which is the one that knows.

Experience or excursion

What you do, timings, meeting point, what to bring, and what happens if the weather turns. Booking and cancellation terms are yours to set.

ASK.

Before I write, I ask odd questions

What time does the sun leave the terrace? Can you hear the road from the main bedroom? What’s the first thing guests ask when they arrive? The answers are the copy. The rest is putting them in order.

  1. 01

Send me what you’ve got: photos, a floor plan, a room list, the current listing and, if you can, the messages your guests send most often.

  2. 02

I ask my questions, — in writing or on a short call.

  3. 03

I write the draft — in whichever language you need. If you need both, each version is written for its reader, not translated.

  4. 04

I make your changes, — then you get it fitted to every place you’ll publish it.

CALENDAR.

What to commission, month by month

In hospitality, copy is nearly always late for the same reason: nobody thinks about it until the guests have arrived. Pick a month and I’ll tell you what’s worth getting started.

A guide only. Easter moves every year, and your season is your own: if you open all year or close in October, we’ll adjust.

VILLA.

A country house, told in details

Illustrative sample, not real client work

The brief (made up)

A four-bedroom country house between Santanyí and Cala Figuera, let by the week to families and groups of friends. Made-up name: Sa Tanca Vella. The owner wants guests to arrive knowing exactly what they’ll find, including what isn’t there.

The copy

Sa Tanca Vella · Country house with pool, 4 bedrooms, sleeps 8

Sa Tanca Vella sits at the end of a dirt track between Santanyí and Cala Figuera: far enough to hear no traffic, close enough to cycle into the village for bread. It’s built of stone and marès, with thick walls that keep the ground floor cool in August.

There are four bedrooms, three with their own bathroom. The fourth, with two single beds, uses the bathroom off the hallway. The kitchen opens onto the porch and the porch onto the pool, which is 10 × 4 metres and unheated. There’s a built-in barbecue, a carob tree that shades the terrace from about four o’clock, and fibre broadband in case someone has to work.

What there isn’t: a sea view. In exchange, the night sky is properly dark. Bring a torch for the track.

Why it’s written like this: saying what’s missing (the sea, the fourth bedroom’s own bathroom) heads off the "not what we expected" review.
