What happens between your first message and the finished copy, with nothing hidden in the small print. If any of this doesn’t suit you, better to find out now.
LISTEN.
First, you talk
It all starts with what you tell me: what you sell, who to, what people always ask you, what you’d love them to say about you, and what you couldn’t bear to read on your own website. Use the form, send an email or give me a call. It doesn’t need to be tidy; tidying it up is part of my job.
From that, I send a written quote: what’s included, the total cost and when you’ll get it. It’s valid for 30 days.
WRITE.
One draft, two rounds of revisions
You get a complete draft, not an outline or three sample sentences. Wherever I’ve made a call you might question (a bolder headline, a word you don’t normally use), there’s a margin note saying why.
Then come two rounds of revisions. In each one, you send me all your changes together, in the same document, and I make them. If two people on your side have opinions, agree between yourselves first: it saves me guessing and saves you a round.
Need a third? It’s charged by the hour: €54 an hour incl. VAT, or €45 + VAT for businesses.
A word about the name: big words get used here when they’re needed, which isn’t often. If your draft says "exceptional", it’s because something is, and the next sentence explains why.
NEED.
What helps me write better
- 01Whatever copy you already have, even if you don’t like it. Especially if you don’t like it.
- 02Photos, floor plans, catalogue or menu: whatever the reader will see next to the words.
- 03The messages or questions your customers or guests send you most.
- 04Two or three websites you like, in your sector or not, and one you can’t stand.
- 05One person who makes the decisions, and a realistic date for revisions.
PAYMENT.
Money and dates
- 01The quote is in writing, with the final total and the delivery date. It’s valid for 30 days.
- 0250% when you accept, to hold the slot in my calendar. The rest when I hand over the final copy.
- 03Payment by bank transfer, within 15 days of the invoice.
- 04The rights to use the copy pass to you once it’s paid in full.
- 05If you’re buying as a consumer, you have 14 days to withdraw from the contract. How that works, including what happens if I’ve already started writing at your request, is set out in the Terms.
AI.
About artificial intelligence
I may use AI tools for research or checking, for example to verify a fact or catch a typo. Nothing confidential of yours goes into public AI tools. And every piece of copy I deliver is written and edited by me, sentence by sentence.
ME.
Behind Big Words
One person, in Son Ferriol, a short walk from Platja de Palma and close enough to the airport to know the season’s started without checking a calendar. I write in English and Spanish, for businesses in Mallorca and further afield. The studio’s name is a bit of a joke at my own expense: I love big words in books, but on a website the small one the reader gets first time nearly always wins.
